Kapa Haka!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Reflect about Kapa Haka

Today we had kapa Haka in the middle block and we were working on our 5 songs/haka for Friday because we will be having a BIG celebration since it is Maori Language Week. One thing that I really enjoyed was that we got to learn Happy birthday in a lot of different ways! One thing that I didn't quite enjoy was that we had stand up and down every time we did an item and we didn't stop practicing until we got 5 minutes of rest. One thing I learnt was how to sing Happy Birthday in 4 different ways in Maori.

We also had A LOT of practice from the past few days because we are preparing for Assembly on Friday.

Maori Language Week - Pepeha!

Maori Language Week - Pepeha:
Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Showcase my pepeha

This week as you may or may not know, it is maori language week. We have started off the week by doing our pepeha. One thing that I really enjoyed was using oral language and reading out my pepeha on screencastify because it is a creative way to show what I have been learning. One thing that I didn't enjoy was that I didn't know some of my pepeha such as my waka and my marae but here is my screencastify that I did.

We also had to put our pepeha on a DLO. Here is what I made!

Tongan Language Week!

Tongan Language Week:
Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALA: The Tongan culture

This week is Tongan language week and we are doing a MASSIVE celebration on Friday. The Tongan group is preparing for Friday so I think they are pretty stressed since they only have 4 days. But, today we went to the hall and they did a introduction. I can't wait until Friday to see what they have up there sleeves for us. Today, we were learning about the Tongan language. We learnt how to have a conversation with a partner. Some people were kind of stuck but we helped them! We also have to do a presentation and answer the following questions:

How many people live in Tonga as of 2018?
What population of people who are Tongan live in New Zealand?
What other words or phrases can you find/learn in Tongan.
How many different religions are there in Tonga?
What does the flag look like?
What do the colours/symbols of the flag represent?
What are some of the cultural foods from Tonga?
What are the names of the foods?
What celebrations occur in Tonga?
Why are they celebrated?
What were the natural disasters that happened in Tonga?
When did it happen?
How much damage was done to Tonga?
How many people were affected?

Production Practice!

IALT: Reflect about our production practice

This week we will be practicing for our production in week 10 and it is going to be AMAZING!!! So far, our classroom has been working/acting out a play that will be shown to our parents/caregivers when our production comes. We have been split up into cultural groups and the leaders which is myself, Akanesi, Constance, Aletheia and Leilani have a group and we have to work with them and complete our task as a team. I had to write a myth/legend from NZ(New Zealand) and since we are learning about natural disasters, we got a disaster which was Earthquakes.

At the moment, I am enjoying working with my pairs in my group and it's AMAZING to see that they are really in to it and they are having a lot of fun. One thing that I am not enjoying so far is that we only have a little bit of time to rehearse our plays and also have a cultural item prepared for the production.
