FINISHED EARLY + SCHOOL PHOTOS!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Reflect about my day at school today

Today we finished school early! Some people stayed at school until 3:00pm so that the little kids can get picked up by there parents and a lot of the parents were busy so Mrs Kelly decided to put on a movie in the hall for those who stayed back and we watched PLANET 51!

I went home but then ended up going back to school since it was SO, SO BORING! I was there for the ending of the movie but I watched it A LOT of times when I was little so I pretty much new the movie. It was actually cool how Leilani hasn't watched it before because I got to spoil it and tell her about it since it was nearly to the end... But she did want to know so yeah!

ALSO we had school photos! I was in the front...AGAIN! For some reason, i'm always getting put in the front but thats okay! We also had a student leader school photo! It was AWESOME too.

I enjoyed my half a day today!

Homework club!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Reflect about Homework club

Today after school we had homework club where students get to stay after school and finish of work that needs to be done! I was finishing off my Matariki drawings and also trying to finish off my Science project that is due next week. I decided to stay back at school so that I was able to finish off some of my work so that there is less work to do because for Matariki presentation, we are making an oral presentation and we are using pictures and our voices to explain our topic.

This week, this was the only day that we could do homework club because that teachers are very busy!

But anyways...

I hope we get the chance to do homework club again!

Visual Art!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

WALA: Visual Art

Our class has been learning about visual art and we had to draw what we have learnt in Inquirt with Ms. Fepuleai which is night and day, tides, the sun and gravity! We also had to putin what we like to do!

One thing that I am enjoying so far is that I am learning about visual art. But... one thing that I am not enjoying is that I have made something different compared to my other visual art that I had first drawn because when I was going through some images on google, one of the images that I had found inspired me to draw one of my own creation and making it look like my own!

Here is the picture that inspired me!

It looks AMAZING right?

What I decided to do was change it up and add my own patterns and shapes in it. BUT..... this picture did help me A LOT!

Well...Please comment on my blog!

Volleyball!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Reflect about what we did at Volleyball today!

Today we had Volleyball with Elena and we played an elimination game of Volleyball. If you hit the ball out or you were going for the ball but you missed, then your out until the next game.

One thing I enjoyed about today's lesson was that we got to play Volleyball heaps of times and we were all enjoying ourselves. Another thing that I enjoyed today was that we I saw people get out, they weren't mad at all, instead they were smiling and laughing with joy!

One thing that I didn't enjoy about today's lesson is that this is our last session doing Volleyball and all of us were enjoying learning a lot of Volleyball skills. The skills we learnt during our Volleyball lessons are spike, dig, set and serve.

I have one question for you:
What is your favourite sport?

One of my favourite sports are Volleyball and Netball!

Inquiry - Galaxy review!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

WALT: Explain what Gravity is!

This week we have been learning about Gravity! We had to write a review about gravity and we have learnt because we are going to start learning about the solar system with Ms. Fepuleai. One thing that I enjoyed learning about Gravity is that we got to do these different experiences such as making a parachute and dropping 2 balls to see what will touch the ground first. Something that I disliked was that when we were making our parachute, we put too much tape so it dropped quite fast but we made another on and it kind of worked!

My Gravity Review:

I decided to use Monita's and Aletheia's videos because my ones weren't slow motions!

No Technology Tomorrow

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Reflect about no Technology tomorrow.

Tomorrow the Kia Manawanui will no be going to Technology @ TC(Tamaki college). This is because they will be having exams and they have to prepare.

One thing that I was looking forward this week in Technology was starting to shape out my design using the scroll saw because that means that the next thing I will be doing is putting the pewter casting in but unfortunately there is no technology this week.

How night and day happens!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!
IALT: Reflect out the movie that I made with a few friends!
About a few weeks ago, we did a movie about how night and day happens. Myself, Constance, Akanesi, Edith and Lydia did a movie using pictures which is an Oral presentation. Since Akanesi is the ambassador, we helped her with a movie that we made to explain night and day.
One thing that I enjoyed was making movie with my friends in under 2 days and I to me it was a challenge that I had to face and it was AMAZING working with my friends to make the movie successful. One thing that I didn't really enjoy was when we were doing a lot of colouring because my hands were getting tired so Edith offered to do it since she loves colouring!

MATARIKI!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

WALA: MATARIKI!

This week we have been learning about MATARIKI. Now, what is Matariki? Well Matariki is a cluster of seven stars and it also stands for a Maori new year. In English Matariki means the eyes of god( Mata ariki). This week we are doing jigsaw which is when you get into groups like this:

Everyone got to choose one topic that they wanted to work on. After that, you a put into another group which is the topic that you are working on. My topic that I chose was Comparing Matariki and Waitangi Day. We are using a venn diagram to sort our ideas out! After you find information about the topic you are working on, you share back with your group that you were put into first. For example, in my group is myself, Suave, Stephney, Grace, Akih, Carra, Teresa and Mason.

One thing that I'm most excited about is learning more about matariki and the Maori new year! Also the light trail that happens every year near the Glen innes Library. Click here to see a video of the light trail!

Tai Chi lesson T2W8

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

WALT: Reflect critically about our Tai Chi lesson!

Today we had Tai Chi with Mr Gordon. During our Tai Chi lesson, Mr Gordon was telling us these different stories about what happened to other people. One of the stories that he told was that he went to a school and they had to answer these questions:
My positive comment is...
My negative comment is...
My random act of kindness is...
But for the negative comment, one the of the boys from another school said that his negative comment was getting arrested because he stole from another persons house. Then Mr Gordon said why did you do that and he said because he was poor. The boy said he and a few friends stole a t.v, xbox and all sorts of things but one thing that he didn't get was food. If he was stealing from a house, it would of been best to take food instead of taking a lot of expensive things because then the boy would of had something to eat.

Another story that Mr Gordon told us was that if you at a party or a club with a few friends, make sure to watch your drinks just incase someone might spike it and put a few drugs in it. Mr Gordon said that he told his 3 daughters that if you ever go to a party and you want to dance, take turns at watching the drinks like for example 1 of your friends stay behind and watch the drinks while the other go and dance, then you switch.

Our word of the day was Courage. Courage means to be brave and try new things. Another story that Mr Gordon told us was that when he was 7, next to his school lived an old lady that had A LOT of fruit trees at her backyard. Everyone would go over the fence and would pick a lot of fruits. One day Mr Gordon's friend asked if he could go over and get some fruit but Mr Gordon said "why don't we just go and ask". His friend started to laugh so Mr Gordon we to the old ladies house and knocked on the door. She answered it with a grin on her face but when Mr Gordon said can I have just one apple and she had a MASSIVE smile on her face. Now every time Mr Gordon would walk past her house to get home, he would stop in and get some fruits of any kind from the old lady just because he was the FIRST person to ask!

Well I heard a lot of AMAZING stories from Mr Gordon.

Cybersmarts! My digital life...

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALA: Digital footprints!

This week we had some lessons with Ms. Komor and in cybersmart, we are learning about digital footprints. Our task was too take note about what we go on at home. E.g snapchat, youtube etc.

Now, you all might be wondering this question but what is a digital footprint? Well a digital footprint is when you go on something like a website, you leave a mark that stays there FOREVER. One thing you should do is change your settings to private. Also, when you go on a website or on social media, make sure to log out everytime you are finished.

Questions we had to answer:

Approximately how much time each day do you spend accessing digital media?
(a little, some, a lot)

List the reasons you are accessing digital media? e.g. learning, research, fun, entertainment, connecting with whanau, friends

What are your favourite and least-favourite things to do with digital media?

List some examples of how you connect with others or create with digital media?

Our Classroom environment!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!
IALT: Put up displays around our classroom!
Yesterday after school myself, Akanesi, Leilani and Constance stayed back at school to help put up displays to make our classroom environment look better. We started putting up letters that say "Camp Raglan 2018" and "Earth and Beyond". We did this because all the student leaders got a notice about staying behind and helping but we were the only people that stayed back. After about a few minutes Mahara walked in and came to help. He was doing the laminating.

My job was to get the photos from the printer. I had to wait a really long time for the photos to print and the printer was printing the pictures one by one which was taking a LONG, LONG time. While I have waiting I was reading some books because I figured that since i'm waiting, I'll read some books!

Making connections with Space Technologies!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

WALT: Categorise our questions into groups and re craft our questions so that they are thoughtful and specific.

For inquiry our topic we are working on is Earth and Beyond!

On Tuesday we had to get into groups (maximum of 4 people) and we had to choose a topic that relates to Earth and Beyond. In my group is myself, Grace, Leilani and Edith. Our topic that we chose to work on was Space Technologies. This is because we were all interested in this topic and we had that connection with it. Also because we wanted to learn more about space technologies.

Image result for space technologies

We had to find out what we already know about our topic. After that we had to ask questions that we wanted to know more about our topic.

Our questions were:
What is space technology?
Was space technology used differently in the past compared to the present?
Why are space technologies created?
How do space technologies affect Earth?
what would happen if space technologies were destroyed?
what other space technologies are there?
Are space technologies safe in space?
How do space technologies affect space?
What other space technologies are there?

Next week we have ako evening where all our parents come and we have to present our work to them. During our investigation we found it quiet hard to research these questions but we were able to find some information relating to our topic that we chose.

Technology with Mr Grundy!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!
IALT: Produce an item of jewellery suited to a particular recipient!

Today we went to technology at Tamaki College. My group which is with Mr Grundy have been working on pewter casting. We had to finish off our workbook but Mr Grundy to have  least 10 pictures so you can choose out of them. He also said that if you want to have a higher standard in technology then we have to make sure to finish off our workbook.

Anyways, I have just finished drawing my design but didn't have time to cut it out. For my design I am making a teddy bear for my sister. This is because she LOVES teddy bears so I wanted to make one for her!

If you don't know what pewter casting is then watch this video that shows what pewter casting is and how to make it:

Next week I will be starting to use the Scroll saw to cut around my design so that I can do the next thing!

Commenting on Aletheia's blog!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: comment on other people's blogs!

Image result for blog commenting

Today I decided to comment on Aletheia's blog because she is always blogging and she is someone who blogs to the year 8 standard. I decided to comment about her letter to Ms. Gibson and how she reduced the cost for camp! We wrote letters to the people who helped at our camp because if they didn't come, our camp wouldn't be successful! We also had a shared lunch and invited those who came to camp!

Here is my comment to Aletheia:

Blog Posting!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Have at least 15 blog posts a month!

A lot of people have started to not blog throughout this year. So today we have started to blog our work and if we didn't have one blog post then we would have to stay in. This is because a lot of people aren't blogging consistently and haven't been sharing there work on there blogs.

As you can see below, this is how much I have been blogging. One thing I think I need to work on is blogging more often and sharing my work to the public. In June which is this month, I have 5 blog posts but I want to have at least 15.

My goal for this term is the blog my work consistently and the year 8 standard because as a student leader, our blog posts we have to have at least 15 blog posts every month so this is something I want to work on.

This is our blog post checklist. We need to make sure that we have these things in our blog!

This is so we make sure that our blog posts are upto standard!

Inquiry with Ms. Fepuleai!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Reflect about what I learn in Inquiry with Ms. Fepuleai!

Today we had Inquiry with Ms. Fepuleai and we were learning about Gravity. We got 2 basketballs, 2 tennis balls, a piece of paper and a piece of scrunched up paper to examine how gravity works! There was one words that Ms. Fepuleai said which was Density. What do you think these words means? Well your about to find out!
Image result for inquiry

Density:
Using a piece of paper and a piece of scrunched up paper, we used them to find out which one is going to drop on the ground first. With the scrunched up paper it would automatically fall to the ground. But, when you drop the paper, it is like a parachute. This is because the air is pushing down on the paper making it float but if we tested it outside, both papers would float away.

Look at the picture below. If the lady on the top was to drop piece of scrunched up paper, it would go on the Earth, RIGHT? But if you see the people with the yellow and dark brown shirts, if they drop a piece of scrunched up paper, won't it fall down instead of on the Earth? No. This is because in the center of the Earth, there is LIKE a magnet this is attracted to everything!

If you want to learn more about Gravity, click the link to find more information:

Well I hope you learned something about gravity.

Girls Tai Chi Reflection!

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Reflect about Tai Chi on Wednesday!

On Wednesday we had Tai Chi with Mr Gordon. We always start off by doing our stances and forms before we get into another thing. After that we got a chair and we shared what we done at CAMP!

Image result for Tai CHi

I really enjoyed finding out what other people liked about camp and what they didn't really like about camp. Something that I also enjoyed at Tai Chi was that Mr Gordon was telling us these different stories and one of the stories that he told us was that his son couldn't go to camp because he was sick and he didn't want everyone else to get sick so he ended up staying home and missed out on there camp. We also found out the Mr Gordon's son was going to the same camp as up but we went a week after them!

something that I didn't really like at Tai Chi was that we didn't have time to play a game because we were so into the different stories that Mr Gordon was telling us about.

Technology with Mr Grundy

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

IALT: Write about what I did at Technology!

This week we have changed groups for technology. Graphics moves to hard materials, hard materials moves to cooking and cooking moves to graphics. In our group we are going to be making pewter casting pendants so today we were figuring out what kind of pendant are we going to make, who is it for, what does that person like and why is it for that person. I chose my Mum, Nan, myself and my little sister. We had to find our 4 things about what they like.

After that we had to find pictures using the word "Silhouette" because Mr Gundy said the we can't have thin bits on our pendent otherwise it's going to bend and break easily.

There is a lot of things that I need to learn but I can't WAIT to make one!

Please comment on my blog!
