Day 1 bonus activity - WEEK 2 - In Flanders Field SLJ

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!
For today's activity, I had to read a poem about Flanders Field so if you want to read it then here it is:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

What do I think about this poem?
Well I think that this poem has powerful sentences and this person put a lot of depth into it. In this poem, I makes me feel like i'm living a life in Flanders field with all the beautiful poppies and the people that fought in the war to save our land.

To me, my favourite is part is the first one:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
Because it has beautiful sentences like "still bravely singing" and "In Flanders field the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row".

Day 1 activity 2 - WEEK 2 - The right to vote SLJ

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

For today's activity, I have to blog about women that weren't aloud to vote in Saudi until 2015? Do you think it was fair or not?

Well I think that it's not fair that only men can vote because women have there rights too. It's actually not fair that women don't get to vote because they are the people that do everything for the men so I think that men should have a really good reason why women couldn't vote in Saudi.

To be honest, is it the men that don't let women vote in Saudi or is it to president. I think it's the president now because well after all, he is the person that runs the country and does all the rules.

If I was the only girl that got to talk to the President of Saudi, then I would ask him why women should be aloud to vote! If men can vote, then women can vote. And many other countries, the women got to vote so I don't get why they couldn't vote in Saudi

Day 1 activity 1 - WEEK 2 - St Patrick's Cathedral SLJ

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

Today I have to find a Cathedral on google search and answer these questions:

- The name of the Cathedral?

- Where the Cathedral is located?

- When was it build?

- How long did it take to build it?

Well keep reading to find more information!

This is the picture that i've found. I have chosen this Cathedral because it's in auckland where it's kind of chose to me, and it's a very beautiful place where people can pray, light candle's and enjoy the moments of peace.

The name of it is St Patrick's Cathedral and it was build in the early 1840's. They finished the Cathedral in 2007 so it took them a really long time to build this as you can see.

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

Today I have commented on a students blog. They are from Glen Innes School.

Here is what I commented on Limiteti's blog...

In my comment, I added a really deep thought to who I was speaking to! I told them about me and told them what I liked about there work! I didn't add any feedforward because they really don't need to work on anything.

In this activity that Limiteti did, I really enjoyed reading it because it was very interesting. Well that's all that i've got to say.

- Visit the treaty house itself

Image result for Kapa haka

If I had to choose one of these 3 things to see at Waitangi, I would definitely get a tour around waitangi because it's a place where you get to explore and see things that you can't see where you live and It also gives you a chance to see the different waka's, how big Waitangi is, and especially the Maori people!

I have written a comment on her blog since she's been doing some amazing work.

Something thoughtful in my comment was when I said "I hope to see you next year with I Summer Learning Journey prize" because I think she deserves it even though I know it's not my decision to choose who wins.

Day 4 bonus activity - Musical festival - Matatini SLJ

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

In this activity I have to rank each of these videos #1 favourite, #3 least favourite.

Here are the videos if you want to see:

Te Iti Kahurangi

Te Puku o Te Ika

Number 3: Tamatea Arikinui
This is my least favourite performance because they didn't really catch the audience's attention but other then that they were really great at poi, they had lovely voices and they did an outstanding job.

Number 2: Te Iti Kahurangi
This kapa haka group did an AMAZING job on there performance. They got the audience's attention, the sung loud and proud and even though they were only swaying, there voices made it powerful.

Number 1: Te Puku o Te Ika
This is my most favourite kapa haka performance because they sung proud to a person that they all looked up to that I think passed away, they sung with there heart and it was spiritual.

Well these are my rankings to these 3 videos:

Day 4 activity 2 - Playing games SLJ

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

In this activity I have to choose a maori game that I liked and explain what the name of the game is, the goal or purpose of the game and two rules. Well one game that I chose wasn't actually from the list from this activity but you guys should know it. Its called pukana.

Image result for pukana game

Pukana is a game where people have to keep the rhythm going but if you muck it up, then your out. Here's how you play the game.

The game starts with the caller that says "Te nei te kemu, pukana, pukana, rai ti". After the caller says that, He/she will choose a way and say PUKANA to the person beside them. And make sure your keeping the rhythm going. If you want to choose someone different from opposite you, you say "Aue" then the person you chose says "he" and carries on with the word "PUKANA".

There is also another way of saying the caller's bit which is "He toru karanga mata huriana", then you reply with "Hi, hi, hi ha". Then the caller says "wai wai takahia", then you reply with "Hi, hi, hi ha". The the caller says "show me a pukana", then you all show a pukana". After that the caller says "pukana hi, pukana ha, pukana, pukana, pukana, PUKANA and pass it on while you say the last pukana.

Here's an example:

"He toru karanga mata huriana, hi hi hi ha. Wai wai takahia, hi hi hi ha. Show me a pukana(show your pukana), pukana hi, pukana ha, pukana, pukana, pukana, PUKANA!

My favourite thing about this game is that you get to verse people that are next to you, it's so funny and amazing.

If you don't understand then here's a video to help you!

CLICK HERE: This is one way of playing it.

Make sure to play this game.

Day 4 activity 1 - The waiata - A song in your heart SLJ

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

This activity is about my favourite maori waiata that you found on google search. I didn't really need to google some waiata's because I know heaps. There are 2 waiata's that I like which are "Tiaho mai ra" and "Ka pioioi".

Image result for maori

Why do I like these 2 songs? Well, because in Kiko you can use poi's and I LOVE using poi's and in Tiaho mai ra, the song is about aroha.

Here are the lyrics to Ka pioioi:

Ka pioioi1 e
Tohu aroha haukāinga

E hoki mai rā
Kia kite atu i tō iwi e.
E rotarota2 ana
E katakata ana mai rā.

Pūkana3 whetero4 mai
I te ihi5 ā ō mātua.6

Kia kite atu ano
I tō ataahua ai kanapa7
Pupuhi ai e te hau8
Kapohia āku roimata.

Ka pioioi he
tohu aroha haukāinga

Here are the lyrics to Tiaho mai ra:

Tiaho mai rā
Te whetu o te ata
Kopu i te ao,
Pareārau i te pō
Ka tu te ao marama
he ao hara
Tu mai rā koe hei tohu i ahau,
Tu mai rā koe hei tohu i ahau,
E kore te aroha,
E kaupare noa
Hoki mai rā ki ahau, e te tau.
Hoki mai rā ki ahau, e te tau.

Tiaho mai rā
Te whetu o te ata
Kopu i te ao,
Pareārau i te pō
Ka tu he o marama

Tu mai rā koe hei tohu i ahau,

Day 3 activity 1 - The more the merrier SLJ

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

Would you enjoy being a member of a large family? Well to me, I don't really know because A large family can be really fun but then again it might not be. Here's weather I think I would enjoy having a large family or not. Keep reading for more information!

victorian family.jpg

I would be a member in a large family...
Yes I would be a member in a large family because you get people that stick up for you if your getting bullied or they could also do your chores for you hahaha. For some people, having a huge is great but your going to get a massive house.

I wouldn't be a member in a large family...
No I wouldn't be a member in a large family because they might not listen to you and instead they will listen to someone else, there is not enough room so you're going to get a bigger house which is going to cost a lot of money and your going to have to feed a big crowd.

Now that I have thought of this I would actually not want a large family because there is a lot of money that is spent and there are a lot of things that you are going to have to do.

Day 2 bonus activity - special meals SLJ

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

What's your favourite food? Well, my one is macaroni and cheese because I like the taste of the melted cheese the is put into the macaroni. When it was my first time trying it, I LOVED it. Straight away I wanted some more. This blog post is about how to make it and what you will need, plus what my favourite food is! Keep reading for more.

If you want to make macaroni and cheese this is how you make it. But first here are the incidents:

1 (8 ounce) box elbow

- 1/4 cup of butter

- 1/4 cup all-purpose flower

- 1/2 a teaspoon of salt

- ground black pepper to taste

- 2 cups of milk

- 2 cups of shredded cheese

This is how to make it:

By the way, this recipe is from the internet!

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook elbow macaroni in the boiling water, stirring occasionally until cooked through but firm to the bite, 8 minutes. Drain.

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; stir in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth, about 5 minutes. Slowly pour milk into butter-flour mixture while continuously stirring until mixture is smooth and bubbling, about 5 minutes. Add Cheddar cheese to milk mixture and stir until cheese is melted, 2 to 4 minutes.

Fold macaroni into cheese sauce until coated.
