Science with Ms. Fepuleai:
Kia ora and welcome back to my blog!

WALA: Tectonic plates
Image result for science

Today in the morning we had Science with Ms. Fepuleai for one whole block which was really fun. One thing that I learnt from Science was the 2 different types of crusts which are the continental crust and the oceanic crust. The difference between the Continental crust and the oceanic crust is that the continental crust is made out of light coloured rocks such as granite(type of rock) and it is thicker. where as the oceanic crust is made out of dark coloured rocks such as basalt and it is thinner.

Did you know that there are 3 types of tectonic plates which are converging, diverging and transform.  Diverging is when the oceanic plates spread/move away from each other. Converging is when the oceanic and the Continental plates come collide and come together but since the oceanic plate is heavier and the continental plate is lighter, when they both collide the oceanic plate gets pushed under the continental plate and it melts into the hot mantle. Last of all...there is transform which is when they are actually rubbing against each other and not on top of each other or nothing is being created.

QUESTION: What is something else that you know about Tectonic plates?

Please comment on my blog!

MANY THANKS
